I checked out the package delivery prices in the states USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. and they are NUTS! Shipping a defective AT&T $30 cellphone from San Diego to Florida cost me sixteen dollars via UPS. A good chunk was packaging charges.
It would be smarter to eat the cost of the light, but how about the "next one". Back-to-back screwups are hard to chew and swallow. The cap fixes the problem and does not slap a bandaid on it. If there is enough ripple to pinchygiggle the LED strip there is enough ripple that makes it way to anything 12 volt solid state, and personally, that gives me the willies.
I remember too well what the king-of-ripple the original Magnetek ferroresonant power supplies did to anything electronic they powered. Fluorescent lights, radios, 12-volt, TV's, stereos, you name it. Dependent on amplitude, ripple can be pure poison to solid state devices.
