LED retrofit for fluorescent ceiling fixtures?

Since a 12" fluorescent is 8 watts and a 18 is 15 watts you should get the same amount of light by replacing with 3 panels/fixture for a total of 9. Doubt you will get the same amount of light using six 12" sections of strip lights plus you'll have to solder leads on the 12" sections... not that hard but sounds like more than you'll want to do.
