Leveling a Fridge while on the Road

We travel with our fridge on (the fridge's rear coils are facing the TT's right-side, outside wall). Sometimes we pull off here and there on some uneven surfaces for 4-8 hours at a time. I can easily get the fridge side-to-side level by using our tongue jack. However, getting the fridge level front-to-back is a lot more difficult on some surfaces with the scissor jacks.

Looking at the tubing on the back of the fridge it would seem flow would most easily be interrupted with it being off-level from side-to-side.

Is it ok to be off-level front-to-back?

    Not really accurate.
A local cooling unit rebuilder told me they did tests on units and found damage began in as little as 15 minutes of being out of level.

In my own case, I destroyed one when we mistakenly left the fridge on with the front of the TT sitting a bit high after we got home one afternoon. By morning it was ruined.

    Ditto.

Stuff a few blocks under the wheels on the low side and that should get you close to level.
    Gotcha--lol!

It's a grey area when one goes from stabilizing to leveling. Always done minor level/stabilizing with scissor jacks while "on the road" with no issues. More than "minor", then yes, I completely agree leveling spacers are recommended.

Trail-explorer, robsouth, what are your thoughts on the importance of leveling a fridge front-to-back as opposed to side-to-side? Thanks!

  • If your going to sit more than 10 to 15 minutes, level it.
The damage is cumulative and many people think they've never had a problem until they're someplace very hot and it suddenly wont keep up anymore.
