Similar problem I have an HWH leveler system. Today after camping for a couple of days, I put the levelers in STORE and they came up and the sensor alarm screamed for a couple of minutes but then shut off indicating all levelers are up. I then looked and the drivers side front was still down about 2 inches, but felt safe to drive home. Got about 50 miles and then the Jacks Down alarm went off so pulled over and that drivers side leveler was now down about 3" so felt ok to get it home. The alarm blared all the way home. Called my RV tech and he told me to put the levelers down all 4 and the Store to see if we could get that Dirver's side leveler up. NOT only did that one not go up any further but the Passenger rear leveler now is on ground and NOT going back up. At that point I was frustrated so just let it sit. About an hour later I sprayed DRY LUBE on the springs and cylinder and tried again and this time, Both came up as desired, both all the way up. Called the RV Tech and he said to not use the Dry Lube again due to it drying to a wax and collect dirt. The springs that pull these buggers up are rusty but seem strong but who knows. I do not know where to start to look for the hydraulic fluid reservoir but since the probem is retraction not going down, I am thinking not hydraulic but springs just need cleaning up? HOW do I clean these springs. I am now afraid to put the levelers down. I read here that this is not uncommon. AH IF one is down and it stops me from moving, this is worrisome but maybe I am missing something. SUGGESTIONS? IT is a 2003 Newmar Mountainaire Gas with Vortec engine, Workhorse chassis. IS WD 40 better to use or T-9 or what?
You do NOT clean rusted worn springs. Look at your springs. The older weaker style HWH springs were the same diameter top to bottom. The NEWER HWH replacement springs(past 10 years or so) will be tapered that last couple of inches on each end. Replace all 8 if you have the old style springs. You can get them from HWH. Order 4 sets(8 springs). Doug
