Indirectly yes. I believe the idea is to get them charged to the exact same voltage after each cycle. .
Similar to the BMS in my EV running 40 kWh and close to 400v.
In the EV world we see a graph like this showing the position of balancing.
Just illustrates how the individual cells are kept within about 1/100th of a volt.
