The base of LED lamps can get very hot and that is why most have heat sinks around the base. While it is no hotter than an incandescent, it remains hot longer.
The diffusion pattern of LEDs are different than incandescent lamps. I am currently using Feit bulbs and they do work well in ceiling fixtures and so-so in table lamps. An incandescent bulb will reflect light in virtually every direction.
Personally I buy 2700K bulbs and have almost the entire incandescent replaced.
