Those grooves are NORMAL. I would NOT replace the Gear Pack for this supposed problem. The "grooves" are where the rollers run on the Steel Mechanism. I would purchase a replacement set of Gear Packs as the Teeth will eventually shear a tooth or 2. Better to have the gear pack and repair than need it and you have to wait a week or 2 for the part.
