- pianotunaNomad IIIHi Mr.Wizard,
I've never seen an LI that would work at -20 f (-29 c). I wonder if someone made a mistake? I'm basing that on -20 c and -4 f. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThank you Mr. Wizard. I obviously was thinking of a different battery which is an error on my part. Shunt regulation is how I regulate charge current limit in an equalization exercise so the practice is valid. Some thermal dissipation issues.
Sounds like a tiny Meanwell is a feasible charger. Maybe a <100 watt model. Rationale for tiny is weight. - GordonThreeExplorerAdvertisers seem to be treating F and C as interchangeable.
Literature I can find says -20c which backs up the -4F claim from Amazon
Haven't found anything lower but I'm not researching like I was writing a paper on the subject.
Try these keywords in the Google for some technical reading:
Lithium iron phosphate LFP operating temperature inurl: edu
The inurl keyword is important, it filters out all the .com trying to sell something. No space between : and e - Matt_ColieExplorer III just replaced 9yo Duracell GC2 with a pair of Trojan T-105s. I did the research hoping to replace them with LiFePo4, but the cost was still a big stopper. At five-plus times the cost today and the actuarial tables that say that the Trojans will outlive me, it just did not hold any charm.
I really would have liked to lose that lead weight.
Matt - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThe brick wall I am running up against
Is the warranty
One Year ?!!!!!?
If these batteries are so damned good with thousands of cycles claimed and BMS to insure against mistreatment, 1% loss of charge per year, no need to maintain full charge, yadda k yadda k yadda...
Then why are they warrantied like chew & spit merchandise?
None of these gizmos have enough consumer-time to have gained a reputation.
If they were inexpensive I'd shine it on. BUT!
Only the top end lithium batteries way too big have credible warranties.

I don't always agree or understand your posts BUT I agree with you on this one !
Ron W. - lithiumprosjoeExplorerlithium pros has a tm series for solar also also a 5 yr warranty 3 year free replacement
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerSix hundred dollars for twenty amp hours is a tad above my pay grade.
- A defect will show up in the first year of normal use. After that you are on your own. Most likely it will be the last battery you buy for this application.
All deep cycle batteries (that I know of) have a much shorter warranty than a typical consumer start battery for a vehicle.
