It is accomplished by the nature of the chemistry and a passive battery management system, which disconnects -4 f, in Battleborn jars.
The one exception I know of is lithium titanate cells which can be used and charged down to -40.
I really would not mix amp-hour capacities unless you "get it in writing" from the battery maker.
