Ours ended up inside a building, so I didn't really need to do anything I noted above.
Ice doesn't just push UP as it forms. It spreads OUT, so a tank doesn't need to be anywhere near full to be cracked by ice. Look at a frozen pond. The sheet of ice buckles into peaks. So, DO drain that fresh tank unless you have it in heated space!
Think I'll get an Air Pressure Adapter and use that when we get a quick, hard, freeze like we expect tonight and (worse!) again tomorrow. I believe a blowing-out is sufficient for our location, the temp of the freeze and its duration. And much easier to de-winterize from.
Glad to see the water heater, traps, and toilet mentioned again. Easy to forget.
Water heater: Good time to flush it out, check and possible replace Anode if it's a Suburban.
