I also have a 2000 watt Honda and a 5500 watt Onan in the motor home. I wouldn't consider getting rid of my Honda. The fuel consumption is so much greater with the Onan.
My though process is I hope, that the solar will take care of battery charging needs. In the morning the Onan would be run to make coffee, toast and the Microwave during breakfast time, if needed. During this time I could do a fast high amp charge. Then switch over for solar charging the rest of the day.
I do agree with you on the fuel consumption of the Honda 2000. That was why I got it. I would run the Honda just to charge my battery bank back up to the 90% before I got my Iota converter. Since changing over to the Iota I do not need the long generator time to charge.
My hopes is that I can get by with the solar most of the time and only use the Onan when I need the higher AC power loads, or for the day when I don't get the solar charging I need.
I would not unload the Honda until I had the solar up and running and found out just how good I can do with it(energy conservation).
