Another solution (after you will have solar up and running, of course).
Dump both Honda 2000 and Onan, and get Honda 3000 or whatever wattage is necessary to run A/C. Because you will mostly need it for A/C. 5000W generator in the morning only to run a microwave and make a coffee, no kidding ? On a sunny day you won't need a generator for that. This is what inverter is for. On a dark day, and on the 2nd dark day, you won't need a generator for that either. On the 3rd dark day, if it's still dark, you will need "a" generator.
So sometime, I am going to have to change my 300 watt PSW inverter for something a little bigger.
The sooner you change it, the better. Most people are doing it at the same time with solar install, especially if they have to hire somebody to do it. I don't consider microwave a "must to have" or "must to use" item, but if you do use it, getting a big inverter is only logical. For microwave you'll need inverter rated 1500W continuous power, plus other items. Get 2000W PSW.
On a sunny day, as people noted, you'll harvest more than you consumed for the last 24 hours. There is no reason to run a genny on such a day. Yes, I've seen people running a genny for watching 20 Watt TV set or charging 2 Watt cell phone, no kidding.
