Lost a part...what to do?

Once you get it replaced drill a small hole at the top of the slotted hole in the door. then put a small stainless flat head screw in it. The plastic ring can break or whatever and the door will still be there. Lots of doors are lost and they a relatively inexpensive to purchase. BUT, if they are painted, especially more than one color it gets very expensive.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everybody! I realize that many people search and read old threads for ideas (as well as to avoid asking a question for the hundredth time) so I'll add something. It also occurred to me that maybe I should contact the "reborn" Chinook company in Las Vegas. After all they probably acquired moulds, tools and dyes, etc. In theory...yes, I'm highly doubtful that they'll have one on the shelf or whatever, but in the future it could pay off. Thing is, the vehicle is 10 years old and on our watch we've already put 5000 miles on it in 2 months, just taking trips on weekends and Thanksgiving. Thanks again for the help!

I'll bet you have a Suburban SW6 with a flush mount door- not sure about the color though :) These "disappear" all the time, being separate from the frame, and only held on by the plastic cam latch.




You do have to buy the door and frame, but they are readily available. I doubt you will find one used, though it is possible.

I don't really consider 2006 to be older though.

I would first check with a local dealer and see what they can do for you. Many trailer parts are interchangeable between brands, depending on the item. A good dealer with a good parts department can do wonders. If they absolutely have no leads, then start checking RV salvage yards. A simple internet search (RV Salvage - Your State), and you'll probably find something.

If both of those fail, then you do have the 3rd option as pigman1 suggested, attempt to have one custom made. (myself??? if it were me, this is the order of events I would take.)

Most w/h doors were used in models for years. Go to your nearest RV parts supplier with your w/h make and model and they will probably have one on the shelf. (don't ask me how I know)

try the salvage yards if you go to a RV store they want an arm and a leg and two six packs for one. if you do go to a rv dealer and have you water heater make and model number, 6 gal or 10 gal. suburban models are any where from $25 to $50. atwood are $18 to $30
