Magic Chef stove

I took the igniter knob off my Magic Chef stove to clean it and when I reattached it, it would no longer "catch" to ignite the burners. It still clicks but you can tell it's not catching on anything to ignite. Does the knob have some sort of pin in it that may have fallen out when I took it off that allows it to catch?
  • What do you mean by "It still clicks....."

If there is resistance and then a 'click' when you turn knob it is operating the piezo lighter

Look carefully at see if you are getting a spark from the ceramic insulated tip at burner.

Check wire connections on piezo lighter and then at sparker on burner.

S/B a 'slot' in end of shaft on piezo lighter that knob fits into
(or a 'D' shaped shaft and matching 'D' inside knob---old style)
  • I attached the knob correctly and the click is still there but not as loud and resistance is half what it was before I took the knob off. It feels like a small washer or something was previously on the piezo stem or in the knob itself that tightened the fit and gave it the resistance to spark. It worked fine a few minutes before I took the knob off.
