Making AC filters yourself?
My roof air has two long intakes on the bottom of the unit. The foam sponge is worn out and has a big hole in it - hence it doesn't filter the air. Wondering if there are any creative self-cut filte...

That's how I buy the stuff, as long as the filter is just foam (not the Penguin or Carrier filters). I sell (full retail) a large enough piece to get several filters out of for $3.29.
You have to be cautious about using better material, unless you redesign the return to use a larger filter. Usually, better filters will restrict the air flow too much (it's a compromise given the tiny area available for filtering).
In a big box store, look for room air conditioner filter material.
