I have that controller. It self-limits to 260w and you can over-panel it safely by a whole bunch (by three times its rating when it will then fry, the manual says.)
I am unclear from its manual if it actually clips the amps to limit it to 260w or if it somehow limits the watts and that limits the amps. (It has that MPPT that controls the voltage input or whatever--I don't really understand the electronics of it all. There are a couple of ways to do MPPT and I don't know which way this one does it. Even if I did, I would still not really understand it.)
How it self-limits matters because of the need for a current- limiting controller for this job according to that info on that.
