Microair vs Hyper Engineering?

The Microair Easy Start is $299, the Hyper Engineering SureStart is $225 through their Ohio partner BriskHeat.

SureStart is five wires, Easy Start is four. Both appear to be triac based "computerized" units.

Any pros or cons for either unit? The Easy Start seems a lot more popular in the RV community.

My blue 2000w can't start my 13.5, I've added the hard start kit. When I parallel two of the blue 2kw they will start and run, but only at full throttle. In eco they stumble on the inrush of restarting the compressor.

Microair video showed the hard start actually pulled more start up amps then the stock AC.

I'm not sure why this is needed. Can't most inverter gens start the air? Or is the goal to smooth out the inrush?

My Westinghouse 2500 would give up and roll over trying to start my 15k AC. With MicroAir unit installed, I can leave the W2500 on eco mode and it spools up nicely and handles the AC startup.
  • The Honda's inverter programming seems to handle surges better in general, faster to bring up the throttle maybe?

I know Yamaha has a 2nd generation 2kw now with improved surge handling

I was looking at a TrippLite auto transformer, maybe the way to go, as it will multitask, helping at busy parks with sagging shore voltage.

I have both, the Sure Start and the Hughes Autoformer...

Of the two, the autoformer immediately kicks in and does the best job of overcoming voltage sag when running the air cond via the Honda 2000i in eco mode (allowing honda time to respond), plus provides surge protection...The autoformer addresses the sag issue where the air cond caps are not the actual root cause.

  • EasyStart works and was an easy install. Can't comment on the other unit.
