The risk of having only one battery bank is well explained above.
It seems the problem originates in the generator needing a battery to start it, and that battery is the dead one that needs starting. If the generator would start, then you could boost your MH battery with a charger that has engine start.
Some MH's tow a little car. It has a battery so you could boost the MH engine battery or generator from that?
If you carry a small generator so not to have to run the big one for small chores, there is another answer. You can take along one of those power pack things.
Anyway, it appears that MH owners mostly find it is better to go with the standard set-up, although some have posted here that they use a deep cycle for a starting battery to give them extra capacity for camping.
So some MH people are willing to take the risk, or else they have a back-up plan of the kind mentioned above. Easy for us--we have a 5er --no engine! :)
