MotoSat and Direct TV. What now????

Your installer should have showed how it all works BEFORE he left. I would call him back.

Do you have the receiver set for 18 inch round multiswitch one input?

When our old receiver died, our sat guy www.sats2go.com said to order the standard D-12 receiver from DirecTV and not let them send any others. We don't have Motosat but we do have an older dome satellite that won't work with the new HD receivers. And as donn0128 said the new receiver has to be set for the proper satellite.

Update on my MotoSat and Direct TV situation. In answer to one of the posts above, I'm not sure how the receiver is set, since with the new Direct TV remote, you cannot access the dish again. I got a nice call today from Tom, a rep with Satellite Electronics who was up at the FMCA rally. He said mine is a common problem with MotoSat users. He believes if I purchase one of the older RCA receivers on EBAY, I may be able to hook that up with an A/B switch, without having a card, just the unit. Use the old receiver to lock into the satellite and then switch to the new Direct TV receiver to watch it but it requires a new coaxiable cable to be run up through the roof to the back of the motosat dish.
By the time he was describing what had to be done, I had thought it was just better to get a new system at this point. He recommended the Wineguard Traveler. For regular resolution, you could get the old dish replaced for about $ 1100 and for HD, it might be around $1999. I hope you find this helpful. Technology marches on.

I won the battle but lost the war! Thanks for all the troubleshooting help on getting my Direct TV to work with the old RCA receiver and raise our MotoSat dish. I found out that the telephone line input at the back of the RCA receiver in our RV, should have been moved over to the low speed data port, which is side by side and looks the same. A repair guy told me that's the most common mistake folks made.
I hooked it up properly and right away, it directed the MotoSat dish to the satellite. I was able to talk Direct TV into activating the old RCA receiver but they told me that this week, they are turning off the RCA receivers and will no longer support them as they are too old. So I have about 4 days in which to enjoy it! Technology marches on. I'm not sure if direct tv really will turn off the RCA receivers this week on Dec. 18th, but that's what they told me.

Which Motosat antenna do you have?

Motosat antennas come in several types.. I have a dome, it can find Sat 101, but alas, modern DirecHDTV receivers also need 99 and 103 and those not only can the dome I have not find, it can not even see them if it were to be repogrammed, It is 100% not compatable with those birds.

DISH type antennas. come in 1-3-and 3 LNB, I do not know if they made a DirecHDTV version But

The original DirecTV dish had one LNB, usually a dual (means it can run two receivers or more with a switch)

Then Direc came out with an early 3 LNB dish that not only picked up 101 but the two DishNetwork birds as well (They leased space there)

And of course there are the Dish network (2 and later 3 LNB) dishes.

But I do not know if they ever made a dish compatable with modern DirecHDTV receivers.

The email is to Royal Lamb who is one of the MotoSat guys who founded the company and got the boot when new owners took over & proceeded to ruin the company. Royal is very service oriented and will help you if he can.

He has already been given a solution on another forum but I think he's upset that one person told him the DTV is shutting down RCA receivers. It actually makes no sense that they would or that they would care but maybe there is a old security issue with them.
All he has to do is replace his current controller with an updated Nomad controller or he can continue to use his existing receiver to raise/lower the antenna and install an A/B switch to a new receiver to watch programming.

Many thanks for the excellent feedback on MotoSat and newer vs. older Direct TV receivers,
from folks like wa8yxm and Bill.satellite. Someone was talking about the different satellites for Direct TV and curiously, our older round MotoSat dish and Executive III receiver were only programmed to reach one satellite. That being the case, I was amazed as we traveled all around the country that we always got a signal. I remember one time, when we did the old Copper Canyon piggyback railroad trip, that we were deep down in Mexico near Chihuahua, and on the railroad car, I was able to pick up the Direct TV as well, although we were a little south of their map coverage.
Bill.satellite gave good advice. Use the old RCA receiver, if you have the room for two receivers, to raise the dish (I'm told you don't need an access card in it for this function) and with an A/B switch, then watch the programming on the newer receiver. It clearly would be better to pick up a newer Nomad controller instead. Someone told me they are harder to get these days, however. Thanks again for your help on this forum.
