Hi Jim,
I went with seven new steel wheels. The spacer was only a "last gasp" attempt because the tire dealer could not source wheels with the proper spacing in Canada. I was uncomfortable with using a spacer.
With the new wheels I will have the 10.7 inches that the 235/85R16 need.
