Hi Jim,
I bought the RV when it was five years old, it had sat for all that time in a storage yard and had 7000 original kilometers on it. I bought if just after the worst two years for RV sales.
The original purchasers bought it in Jan 2004 and a month later the husband died. It had never had water in the tanks and had not been used by the original purchaser. The date code on the tires was January 2004, so I guess the tires are now 9 years and six months old--not 10 years.
The original purchaser chose to add an extra fresh water tank right at the factory. What made the unit "undesirable", was it has no built in generator (an option but the buyer did not want one), and there is no slide. Both of those delighted me, especially the lack of a slide as I RV in extreme cold.
The selling firm has a 90 day bumper to bumper repair policy for the "house" part of an RV, and just three items needed attention. The plastic screen door latch failed (my fault, I think). the side door lock had no key--and instead of getting in a locksmith to make one the sellers replaced the entire lock. The other item was the control board for the ducted air conditioner.
It has required just six repairs and maintenance items since I purchased it. A mass flow air sensor, an Oxygen sensor, a new rear bumper (tail swing is horrible DAMHIK), a coolant system flush, a transmission flush/new oil, and a wheel alignment. I don't count oil changes and have gone to fully synthetic--changing the oil at 25 k intervals. It makes long trips a lot easier to deal with.
I've spent about 15 k on upgrades of various kinds (including labor), and I now own the unit outright.
I've ordered custom made indoor and outdoor window, vent, and skylight coverings. The outdoor ones are for keeping the heat out. The indoor are to keep the heat in in winter time. Industrial velcro is going to be my friend. I hope to have the outdoor covers before my summer trip.
The future includes a better inverter. I'd like a water heater that had engine assist (if the existing one craps out, I'll probably do that).
