MPPT controller - voltage sensing without separate wires?

Soon to be released MPPT 3048 will have battery voltage sensing wires optional. Before they were standard. Now it is supposed to sense the battery voltage through main terminal cables, if I'm correct....

Sal, your explanation makes sense. Now I wish I could understand when and why one might need those additional sensing wires offered as an option.
