MPPT controller - voltage sensing without separate wires?

Soon to be released MPPT 3048 will have battery voltage sensing wires optional. Before they were standard. Now it is supposed to sense the battery voltage through main terminal cables, if I'm correct....

Ok, so when exactly the MPPT will be able to use power cable as a battery sense cable - only when it falls into sleep mode at night?
