To be fair, previous 3024 was capable of at least 420W @12V. With rarely achievable peak, I would say the optimum wattage was 450-480W, but maximum 12V current was 30A anyway. The situation with voltage sense wires in similar units by bigger companies is the same as in this new 3048. Morningstar 45 has a terminal for sense wires, and says "not required but recommended". Blue Sky 30 - don't know. Both have 60V max voltage though, so can't be really considered "similar" now that 3048 has 100V max input.
Which of the Morningstar controllers were you referencing when you mentioned the 60 Volts input max?
TriStar-MPPT-45
• maximum 45 amps continuous battery current
• 12, 24, 36, and 48 Volt dc systems
• maximum 150 Volt dc solar input voltage
• RS-232 and MeterBusTM communication ports
TriStar-MPPT-60
• maximum 60 amps continuous battery current
• 12, 24, 36, and 48 Volt dc systems
• maximum 150 Volt dc solar input voltage
• RS-232, EIA-485, MeterBusTM, and Ethernet communication ports
