Output current - yes, limited. Input watts - who cares?
If you can add more watts, due to higher voltage limit, this is not a waste of money. Current over the limit is clipped, alright. But this limit is achieved for short periods of time and not every day. The rest of the time - which is MOST of the time - you can have more current (within the output limit) if you add more watts. The I/t curve becomes higher/closer to the current limit, and for longer periods of time. The shoulders on I/t curve become higher, more energy collected during a less than perfect day.
