MPPT controller - voltage sensing without separate wires?

Soon to be released MPPT 3048 will have battery voltage sensing wires optional. Before they were standard. Now it is supposed to sense the battery voltage through main terminal cables, if I'm correct....

If there was zero voltage loss wouldn't the panel be at 14.8 and not at 15.3 so there would be no loss? ie, in both cases you'd read the iv or power curve at the same spot?
