Mr. Heater Buddy use question!

Just returned from a trip to Utah. Weather turned out to be much much colder than normal for this time of year. Would have been a problem but temps went down to near freezing and the furnace stopped working. Our heat pumps don't work below low 40s and are our normal backup. Had a little electric heater and with the use of one stove burner we survived (not happily). Competed the trail ride (5 Miles Of Hell in San Rafael Swell) and headed back South to warmer weather. Sadly we cut what was to be a great trip short.

Next time we will pack the Mr. Heater Buddy for use. ONE problem, our Cats! What do people do or how do you use your Mr. Heater or other brands of the same type of heater when pets are around?

Thanks,

  • Got a regular and a big buddy. Not much good at 8000+ feet. Low Ox sensor shuts them down. Problem is that's where we needed them the most.

The best suggestion and safest would be to fix the RV furnace.

    X 2
  • I use nothing but my 2 Olycats day and nite in cold weather. My 43 lb Pit/Heeler loves to sleep right in front of 1 of them,.....so close I'm surprised I don't smell hair burning.

Probably there is a gentle breeze from the air being drawn into the fan. The cat doesn't like the faster moving air coming from the front of the fan.
  • It's just like radiators in houses years ago. Somehow the dogs and cats knew better. When I was little, our cat use to sleep on it in the summer, somehow in the winter it knew to stay off it. I have a oil filled heater in our house now that we use in the winter (danged old houses never heat and cool right), the cats don't bother it.
Another a separate note, we have a number of fans in our house now to help circulate cool air in the summer. One is a big box fan that sets on the floor. One of the cats loves to sleep behind it when it is running. Not in front of it, behind it; never figured that one out.
  • I have a 10,000 btu Blue Flame heater that I sit on the oven door. There's no chance of anything getting knocked into it and it's up off the floor so the dogs don't knock it over.
  • I have a Mr Heater Little Buddy. I set it in my stainless sink when it is on and/or hot to the touch. This ensures that it doesn't get knocked over by the dogs.

Use-wise, I never leave it turned on when I'm not inside, I always have a window and/or vent open, and I never go to sleep with it on. Turn it on for a period before bed, turn off when I go to bed, turn it on when I wake for a period to warm the RV back up.
  • Most pets stay away from hot stuff. Ever hear of a dog or cat jumping on a wood stove or getting burned from a wood stove, electric heater, ect. If they do touch it they will only do it once.

Actually this is normal early spring weather in Utah, 2 weeks ago we camped in 30 degree weather and woke up to a few inches of snow each morning which melted off during the day during the rain storms. Welcome to a state with 4 seasons.
