My LEDs
FYI: I have been posting updates for those of us who have already read the OP below. For anyone new to the thread, it might be best to skip down below all of these updates, read the body of the post...

Just picked up an LED light strip from IKEA. Has 3 sections of 7 LED's each and they all just plug into each other. Comes with a 120 Volt male socket- transformer- and on/off switch. Take a look here LEd strip... After testing it out I noticed that the output of the transformer is 12 Volt DC. So I unsnapped the LED strip from the transformer and jumper 12 Volt DC from my battery and it worked great. Come with small clips to hold the strips in place and all for just $14.99. And it's onlu 2700K so the light looks ligh an incandesent light.
Just thought ya might like to know.
