Well the individual 5050s ARE a brighter LED. And yeah... you're getting a brighter panel from fewer LEDs in... I think... a slightly smaller panel than the 36-1210s.
Hot to the touch is not surprising to me. There's "hot," and there's instantaneous-burnt-flesh hot. Per the same light, the LEDs use about 1/5 the power of incandescents. One could reasonably surmise, then, that the panels would be about 1/5 the temp of comparable incandescents. Well... those old bulbs get REALLY hot. 1/5 of "really" hot is still pretty hot.
This has come up before and was confirmed. Also... most report a very noticeable difference... in their bedroom fixtures (close to their heads,) for example. I don't have time to google all of this now, but if anyone wants to test the old bulbs the old fashioned way... with their fingers... the rest of us will happily weigh your report.
