  • Smokey had a regular column in Popular Science that I read every month when I was a teen.

Popular Mechanics was Gus Wilson's Model Garage .. I still remember some of his tricks... Even used one once believe it or not.
  • Loved it when NASCAR told him never to bring the Chevelle to the track again after draining the fuel cell, he then drove the Chevelle to the trailer. Visited his shop in 1976.
  • Best **** Garage in Town. Loved his column in, was it Popular Mechanics or Mechanix Illustrated?
His ideas would be far easier to implement now due to modern materials. Kirchhoff, the adiabitic engine had a tendency to melt ;)
  • Another neat concept is desmodromic.

Camshaft lobe operated valve closure. No springs. No float. No tons of resistance against engine revolving.

Smokey taught me the TRUE way to audit energy at age ten. The TRUE way of auditing production costs. The TRUE way of analyzing pros and cons of anything mechanical. He is held sixty-two years later on a personal pedestal of awe.
