Most of the stuff posted here is DIY so it is great to see a pro job done to compare.
It's always interesting to see different ways to do things. Some details puzzle me though.
They could've used #10 or #8 wire to controller if wired in series and with controller input 100V. Instead, they installed a controller with 57V input, and therefore had to use thick #4 wire.
With parallel wiring they had to use a roof junction box. AM solar have nice J-boxes, costly but nice, nobody else sells it. Though it's better to have less "stuff" on the roof.
What puzzles me the most is - why 30A controller? 30A is almost enough for 500W but not quite enough. There will be controller "clipping" at times.
I don't know if this is an "overkill". Some parts could've been excluded - like J-box, and some could've been replaced. With series connection they would save on $$ J-box, so more expensive Tristar 45 and #10 MC4 wire would not increase the parts cost. In fact, without J-box and #4 wire there would've been less labor, though this doesn't necessarily mean lower labor costs ;).
What's important is that they would've got a better, more powerful system then.
