My WFCO is taking a dump

I have tested the batt's and they are good & fully charged. My conv is cycling rapidly. What would be a good choice? I'm not interested in the most expensive just a good dependable conv/charger. I've heard the the wfco is not high quality & mine is over 9 yrs old.

  • Hi RJ,

That old PD100 series of yours does indeed have a louder fan than most WFCO units I have seen over the years. O' BTW my PD9100 is doing great with a modified WFCO pendant controlling it manually.

Those WFCO units are usually fairly easy to repair - Hardest part is getting the rivets drilled out.

And the current WFCO is certainly much quieter than the PD replacement

What ??? I've had 2 PD for 13 yrs total, and I never heard either of them. And it ain't because I'm very far away from it, actually I can see it. And it ain't cuz I never have it maxed out either. Maybe cuz I bought it on ebay, and the fans not working.:(

PD and powermax make direct replacements for current WFCO assemblies, don't know if it will fit yours, but Randy at Best converter will let you know if you give him the WFCO model number.

If you seldom boondock, another alternative is to just replace the existing WFCO supply with another WFCO. My experience is that the WFCO's are reliable, very comparable to PD. The big downside is if you dry camp, the current 55A model is prone to not going into bulk charging mode so it takes forever to get the battery charged. But if you don't boondock, not as much an issue.

And the current WFCO is certainly much quieter than the PD replacement.
  • Yeah, go see Randy, he'll sell you another Wfco ! But then, if you had a Wfco last 9 yrs, maybe you deserve another one :)

While my personal preference is Progressive Dynamics, call Randy at http://www.bestconverter.com/. He is very knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong. He will recommend what is best for YOUR situation. He recommended a Progressive Dynamics 4655V for me, and I could not be happier.
  • I agree with Ex-Tech regarding Progressive Dynamics, they make a direct replacement for your WFCO too. Search for converters in Tech Issues and you'll get the name of a place that sells them that everyone seems to like.
  • Progressive Dynamics.
I had a WFCO that went bad and I replaced just the converter section in my WFCO distribution panel with the PD brand..
