for starters, 12 gauge wire is rated for 20A..
That being said, if you watch what you're consuming and keep it under 20A, you'll be fine.. The minute you crank on an AC unit, you're risking burning up that extension cord.
Why not invest in a 10 gauge extension to make your life a bit more peaceful?
