If the starter is bad, sometimes a jar (striking the case of the starter while turning the switch to start) will free it up and get it to turn over. I have done this numerous times to get engine started and avoid a tow. Hit the outside case with a hammer while having someone turn the ignition switch to start and see if it will turn the engine.
