Need info on Todd Engineeering Power Source converter.

My new rig has a converter manufactured by Todd Engineering Sales. The unit is called Power Source battery charger. Model PC40 - (40A)

I have never heard of this brand of converters and was wondering if anyone else has.

The unit was DOA when I bought the TT (97) so I took it out and disassembled it on my tailgate while camping by a lake. I managed to repair it and get it back in and running but it is only putting out 13.0 volts. Better than nothing but it needs to be more.

I read the owners manual that came with the unit and it says there is a jumper I can connect to boost the voltage up around 14, and apparently there is a device I can get similar to the Intelligharger made for PD converters.

I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about these units?
Are they any good? Are they reliable? and things like that.

I am considering ordering a new Progressive Dynamics unit to replace it with.
  • Todd made a LOT of Power Converters and Transfer switches years ago. Then, their Engineers decided to improve them over 10 years ago. Todd had a lifetime warranty on their products. The Caveat was, you had to send them BACK to Todd for them to rebuild. So, you had to wait a month for your unit to be fixed. Well, the Engineers screwed up, and their new design on ALL the new Converters was defective and were failing and with Todds warranty, they could not sustain the replacement cost and went out of business. It was sad, that a good company went under because of this. A LOT of OEM RV makers sustained losses also as under the OEM 1 year warranty, they had to then send out another brand replacement (usually Iota). The original like you have was a good product. Doug
  • They were quite the thing at the time- one of the first switch mode converters. Had a lifetime warranty. Then they went off shore, quality nose dived, and went bankrupt.
Lot of good that lifetime warranty is now :)

Lifetime warranties are for the lifetime of the manufacturer not the consumer or the product.
  • Lifetime warranties are for the "lifetime" of the product!
