SOME Agms have no issues with huge initial charging amps when depleted, but some others, generally the lesser$$ AGM's, will list a 30% maximum charge rate, meaning no more than 30 amps per 100AH of capacity.
This might be an issue with a high amp converter charger and a lower$ 30% maximum rate AGM, and/or when a well wired fast spinning alternator is involved.
Trojan 'recommends' a 10 to 13% charge rate assuming one has 8 to 12 hours to complete the recharge. On a pair of their gc-2 batteries this would be about 25 amps at 10%.
When the generator is involved on a deeply depleted lead acid battery, 'Ideal recommended' charge rate should be secondary to getting to high a state of charge as possible in minimal generator run times.
So if generator recharging is a factor, go for higher amps, and a charging source seeking 14.8v will also do be able more in the same time as a charging source that only seeks 14.4v, reducing generator run times to 80%, or at least getting to a higher % in the run time allowed and slowing the walk down in capacity when back to back deep cycling is going on.
