It is not quite that simple. There is no question pwm is cheaper, and no question that MPPT will drag more amps out of the panels given the same total wattage. It's that simple.
The cost differential is mitigated a bit by the cost per watt on higher voltage panels being lower. It doesn't level the playing field. pwm is still cheaper, over all.
