New A/C is here. Now, how to get it on the roof?

I saw someone mention starting the ladder in the bed of the truck. How much less would it seem to weigh if the ladder was at a 60 degree angle. Engineers? I'm thinking someone pushing and someone pulling. It's 85 lbs, low profile, a Mach 8.

What about strapping it up like a backpack? Could a strong guy get up the back ladder with it. It's a good ladder, not at all rickety.

Any ideas for friction reduction?

Before pulling and pushing the new unit up the ladder, remove the shroud from the AC. It has to be removed anywho for installation and you don't want the rope or the person pushing from the bottom exerting any force upon the shroud, which is not very strong and could easily crack.

    Very good point.

  • Lay a ladder against side of RV. Attach rope to new AC. Climb on roof and pull AC up ladder. Works better if someone is guiding AC up ladder from below. I have seen the mobile tech in our winter RV park do this several times.
  • When we replaced an A/C unit on our Class C by ourselves, we had a friend in town with a little forklift or a tractor of some kind. He got it up high enough we could pull it onto the roof. Getting it on the roof is the real work. After that it's easy peasy!
