New chemical odor inside travel trailer

My trailer developed a strange odor inside after our last trip. I can't exactly describe it but it smells like some type of gas. It's not propane, its a sharp smell, that's the best I can describe it. The odor appeared about 2 weeks after our last trip.

Trying to figure out what it is, I turned off the propane and depressurized the system and that didn't help.

Would the fridge emit a smell if the cooling coil developed a leak? I would expect a fridge leak to smell of ammonia. This isn't ammonia odor.

I just took out the fire extinguisher thinking maybe that's it. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where it originates. Anybody?

Thanks!

  • Thanks all, I'll have to sleuth it out today I guess. I know battery smell and ammmonia smell and this ain't it.
  • Ammonia smell from refrigerator? Check around, inside and outdoors for that smell.
  • Probably battery smell. It was late, I was tired......:Z
  • Check your battery(s). If your battery is older, or it has run dry, or it is overcharging - it could be emitting a strong odor that could smell somewhat similar to a propane leak.
  • Aerosol can leaking? Do you keep cleaners and other spray chemicals that come in spray cans in the trailer? Check them.
