While I agree with you for the most part, the first thing I would eliminate is old, bad gas. I'm talking about filling up your new Honda genny from that red plastic gas can that you used for the lawn mower about a year ago. Absent that, and the OP filled the genny up with fresh gas on the first pull, I'm with you 100% and say take it back to the dealer as something is wrong. This assumes the OP is not running the genny with the choke on or cap closed as noted above.
