New EU2000i surges at idle

I just bought a new Companion 2000 to parallel with my older EU2000. The new gen runs kinda weird at low loads as well. I wouldn't call it a surge, but it definately "bobbles" around. My older gen runs smooth as glass. I too have been trying to figure it out. It's definately not a gummed up carb since it did it right out of the box brand new. I think it's a setting on the carb

I lent my 2000 to a neighbor whose power was out. He used it for a couple days & returned it after filling the gas tank. I use it a week later and it would surge. Drained the gas & filled it with fresh gas, now it works great.

The OP said "new" so I doubt it's a gummy carb. No, it shouldn't do any surging.. unless you run it for awhile with the gas cap vent closed.

Thanks for the advice. I have plenty of Sta-Bil, but use the red stuff, guess I'll try the marine bottle next time I do some generator running.

That Honda genny should not do that. Mine doesn't.

You could have something in the carb from even the first tank of gasoline. I have used two EU2000i's for years and that's the only time I have had surging. The carb is very easy to remove, clean and reinstall. Just be careful with the small float valve and pin. I'm sure it isn't gummed up. Probably need to run a fine wire through all the openings and blow them out.

Dirty carb. Seafoam the heck out of it. I did.Cleaned it right up. Seafoam in everytime I know it won't be used for awhile. I now buy a no ethenol gas for anything I own that could sit around without using.When I had my C I had an ONAN generator which I started and ran until hot every month. Gotta keep the gas flowing through the jets.

Mine surged this week at 8,000' altitude. I moved the choke to "on" just a tad and all is well. It has about 3 hours on it.

Mine has never surged except when powering a battery charger that was in desulfate mode. It would respond to each surge as the charger hit the battery with a spike. Otherwise mine runs OK but it's a bear to get started and always has been.
