new f 150 ecoboost

Thanks to a lot of advice gotten here, I just picked up my new 2014 F 150 yesterday.
In the door pocket was a bag with two relays.
They look like the ones for trailer charging and brakes.
I don't see anything in my manual that tells where they go.
Figured out the big black one but don't know where the small pink one goes.
Any ideas?

I think I found a diagram online. Looks like slot 16 gets the pink 30?
Hope that is the one. I printed the diagram for future ref.

  • Mine was a 2013 and did not have the instructions in the bag either. The dealer installed them when I stopped by for something else . I think the only effect is the trailer battery will not be charged without them, everything else towing wise works ok. But I may be wrong.

Yes! I always read the Owners Manual from cover to cover and hi-lite the important items that are specific to the vehicle that I own. I do this with any new equipment that I purchase.

Not only do I get to learn all about the vehicle, but it saves possible head aches down the road do to ignorance from not reading the owners manual.

dockmaster, wasn't there a diagram in the same packet with the two relays? That's usually the case. But apparently yours did not. I would ask the dealer about it.

X2, when I bought my truck new, I went through the manual while I waited for the truck to be prepped, which took several hours. I knew more about the truck than the salesman who went through this truck with me before I left the dealer.

  • It may be buried, but the relay and fuse have been discussed on here and some F-150 forums. I've found Google's search using the "site:rv.net" works pretty well to find things.

From a quick search, the relay goes into position #9, fuse goes into position #21, and this is for a 2010 Ford F-150, so it can be different on yours.
  • I did read the owners manual. There is a section on light bulbs. If it had the section on fuses I would not have posted the question.
I did go on the internet and find/copy the layout for the fuses.
And solve the problem. Thank you too the people who tried to help.

On third check I did find a section on fuses, no where near the maintenance section.

For the OP, did you at any point consider buying the Ram EcoDiesel instead?
  • Read the section on fuses in the manual. Be sure to read both for the engine compartment and the interior.
  • Ask the service mgr at your dealer... I read somewhere on here that the newer F-150's need fuses or relays put inline in order to tow......
