secondly, the "DC" bus voltage is most likely the panel voltage, if the battery is charged then the solar panel voltage will increase as the load is decreased ( load meaning the charging current ). this is referred to as the "open circuit voltage".
I agree that this is how it's supposed to be. However, why then do the steps and the inverter this this high voltage?

could you please post the panel type and voltage, the controller type
and your battery configuration. ?
Yeah, I'll need to get this info from the coach and the storage yard is closed today.
