Most RVs use a common (chassis) ground for everything, so unless the panel ground is isolated from the common ground, the controller won't do anything useful. They can work, but not with using the controller "load" terminals, since the battery and the loads already share a common ground.
never use the controller load terminals.. they are not meant to be used to supply your full load to the RV.
the "El Cheapo" PWM controllers typically use a positive ground, MPPT controllers are usually floating or isolated so you can ground both the panels and controller.
