Are there any studies that show proof using pure nitrogen imparts any positive benefits for the average consumer?
(Too many) years ago I visited a gas separation plant in Antioch, CA. Dry ice, helium hydrogen, O2, etc. I remember the supervisor quipping "If only we could get rid of the nitrogen". Very energy intensive to separate gasses.
well, the only benefit for most users, racing, aircraft etc. excepted, is that the process also removed most or all water. Now water as it becomes a vapor can have a noticeable effect on tire pressure, especially as the amount goes up. In most cases I'd bet the effect is pretty minor, and not really of any consequence for us. Now for racing tires, another story when a few psi can make a big difference, with dry nitrogen it is possible to accurately predict the pressure change effect with temperature.
dry air IMHO does the same thing.
the other minor benefit is that Nitrogen molecules are slightly larger than oxygen, suprising since the atomic weight is lower. so, you will see less pressure loss. but again, not by much since you'd already have 80 percent nitrogen anyway.
