A meter will tell if it is good before you go to the store.

Agree with checking before buying something that you don't need. It gets expensive to just start changing parts. JMO
  • Westend - Thanks I found that thing, I can change it with no problem, never thought it was a breaker.

  • The metal can part of the breaker can also be turned upright. It may be bolted to the frame. Look for a small reset button. Nearly every trailer built in the last ten years has one of these breakers. If the breaker is not functional, replacements are less than $10 at auto parts stores.

Check the complete circuit from the battery to your distribution center with your meter.

Your 12VDC may not be feeding your breakaway switch as well with this problem. This is required to be functional when being towed by your truck.

Your trailer electric brakes require 12VDC from your 12VDC battery setup in the event that the trailer becomes disconnected when being pulled.

Not a good idea to me to head down the road with this DOT SAFETY feature not working.

  • Thanks - There is a box near the tongue but nothing that looks like a circuit breaker or fuse to me. Don't even see anything like a fusible link. We will have power where we are going so will be not have anyhing we can't get along without? Everything seems to work when we are plugged in even the tongue jack.
  • Sometimes, they hide that battery wire circuit breaker inside a junction box. If not, it should be within a few feet of the tongue.
  • Follow the power. 12V DC out of battery to DC fuse box? We had a master fuse downstream of the battery that when tripped had to be manually reset. I didn't even know it was there. The dealer changed it into an automatic reset. If it tripped there would be no 12V at the fuse box.
