No hot water pressure

I'm thinking I have some sediment in my hot water tank that has blocked the water outlet. I have hot water but it only dribbles out of the faucets.

Yesterday I pulled the anode rod and drained the tank and flushed it, but that did not fix the problem.

Can I blow out the lines by leaving the anode rod out of the tank and connecting the air through the city water fitting?

If not, what's next?

  • Successfully used a hex head multi-spline extractor like this Irwin. What a job!

I replaced the PVC fitting with a new brass check valve with success! I now have hot water at the same flow/pressure as the cold side.

Thanks to all for your help!!
  • Well, I tried to get the check valve out (17 year old trailer) using heat, to no avail. Used vise grips, it just started to move and the fitting (plastic) disintegrated. Now I have a piece of seized plastic in the threads in a very difficult place to work (under the sink in the rear corner of the trailer).

So, now what? remove the water heater from the trailer? How do I get the broken & seized piece out?

Pg. 14 Check Valve......it will walk you thru replacement (simple)
  • Have you check all the hot water faucets to see if this no hot water exist on all of them. If you have pressure at another faucet there is the possibility that a bit calcium from the hot water tank is lodge in the faulty faucet valve.
  • Check Valve:
backside (inside) of tank near the top. It's in the Hot Water Outlet.

Also make sure the by-pass valves are set correctly.

Is the check valve outside or inside the tank as I don't see one?
  • Hot water tank bypass valve is closed.

Hot water tap on outside shower is off ( if it was open I would also see water dripping out it and the water pump wouldn't shut off).
  • The first thing to check is your outside shower faucet. Make sure the hot water handle is turned off tight. If it isn't, you won't get hot water inside. It's happened to me a time or two and it usually takes me about ten minutes to remember it after I've checked everything else.
