non-Honda generators

As we all know Honda and Yamaha are very proud of their generators and they are very good products. However for as often as most of us use them for camping only I've been looking for alternatives, anyone had personal experience with this one:

Champion

Nice because it has wireless remote start and states 58db and sine wave technology.

  • You might want to GOOGLE

Champion generator (model) REVIEWS plus check Amazon. A twitch of common sense can separate the real from the absurd comments.

. . . I've read a few reviews from RV users and they all say it will run their A/C no problem, won't run A/C and microwave together but neither will my 5500 ONAN as the entire coach runs off a single 30 amp breaker, so 30 amps is the key I guess except I have no problem when hooked up . . .
FWIW, a Champion 75531i will run my Dometic 13.5k BTU a/c and OEM 1500 watt RV microwave at the same time--as long as I start the a/c compressor first. Total current with both running was about 25.5 amps. Yes, a little beyond the Champion's 75531i 23.3 amp rated output and not recommended. It was obvious the 75531i was on the verge of going into overload, but nonetheless it does say a lot about the 75531i's continuous and inrush current capability.

    My two cents . . .

If successfully starting/running an RV a/c unit (**), low price, above-average reliability, and proven warranty support, are a priority, the Champion 75531i 3100/2800 watt inverter generator (similar to 75537i except does not have remote start) is definitely worth serious consideration.

IMO, in the field of low-cost, Made in China inverter generators, the Champion 75531i is in a class by itself. It's the only MIC inverter generator that has established a record of reliability, performance, AND excellent warranty support.

** The Champion 75531i inverter generator is capable of producing significant amounts of inrush current---more than two, paralleled EU2000i's or single EU3000iS.

I wonder why they don't run the A/C off the second unused leg on the 5500? Probably because it would require some crafty wiring and isolation, etc. (might be a future project there!).

My purpose for going this direction is multiple, backup for home, occasionally need a generator for work so company can purchase it. And we use generators for race setup/operations once a year at our G.P. Also should my Onan take a dump I'd pull it and go this route, last major repair was over $1,000.00. The wireless remote is really what makes this doable IMHO.

  • I'm the opposite so I bought a Honda 3000. I did have a 3500 remote start open frame Champion at first. It was good for the price but a little too noisy. If I remember correctly it was 68 db? Do you need to run an air conditioner?
