5 flashes means the refer is in Lock out mode. That means that something caused the refer to NOT cool down correctly and the 5 flashes are a NO CO code (No Cool). Older Norcolds can have that happen if the 12 volt power supply gradually dropped down and the 12 volt system went dead. This is NOT the same as disconnecting 12 volts. This is if you are losing 12 volt power due to on Battery only or your Power Converter failed and the 12 volts slowly drained until the 12 volt system was dead. IF the 12 volt supply was not the cause then you have other issues--- Ventilation or some other fault that prevents the refer from cooling down correctly. You have to take it in to have the rear control board reset by a technician. When you have the 5 flashes/NO CO, you have 1 chance to reset yourself by turning the refer OFF and then back on. IF you have NOT fixed the reason for the NO CO, it will then Lock Out the 2nd time and then you have to do a hard reset. This is a cooling Unit protection feature to prevent ruining the Cooling Unit.
