1.-no, but are similar deep cycle antimony type
2.-yes but not with equal length/gauge links especially. I did try to use fatter when longer, no idea how successfully.
I tried to keep the OP simple by calling it three 12s, which it is, but actually it is two sets of 6s and one set of T-1275s done up as three 12s. It does act like three 12s ok, as confirmed by westend with his set-up, so IMO we can treat the observation as valid for any three 12s.
I am going back to one set of four 6s in one bank and the two T-1275s in a separate bank for the summer on solar. Each bank will have its own solar set for charging it. I had that going last year and it went well.
It is just that the middle battery problem on solar in summer would last too long, not like just a few days at a time winter "weekend camping" so it would be hard to get the middle battery back to 100% when there is a chance to do that. I don't want to "lose" that set of batteries.
